empty factory building / stocking factory Paul Hammermüller, Zwickauer Str. 15

The former Paul Hammermüller hosiery factory

In 1920, Paul Hammermüller founded a hosiery factory at Zwickauer Straße 15.

Anna Martha Hammermüller took over the business from her husband Paul in 1930. Two years later, in 1932, the company was taken over by Heinz Hammermüller. In 1939, he rented some rooms at Ficker & Stark in Stollberg, Bachgasse 7, and moved his company there. In 1943, the owners Karl Heinz Hammermüller from Stollberg and Gerhard Georg Berger Chemnitz had formed "Hammermüller & Berger" and were located at Bachgasse 3 in Stollberg. The company was administered by the Treuhand in 1945. The production profile consisted of the manufacture of upper jersey, standard and DZ stockings. In 1946, the company was transferred to public ownership. The assets of Mr. Karl-Heinz Hammermüller, Seminarstraße 377, land and buildings as well as the property at Zwickauer Straße 15 were confiscated according to SMAD order 124/126 in 1950-1951.

In 1947, the industrial administration 48, Stollberg knitting factory, was established as a branch at Bachgasse 3. The company was then renamed Stollberger Textilfabriken, VVB (Z) "Trikot" Werk I Bachgasse in 1950. In April 1953, the company was renamed VEB Stollberger Strumpffabriken, VVB "Strümpfe". In April 1955, the company was integrated into VEB "Stotex" Stollberger Strumpffabrik, VVB "Trikot". In May 1958, an elevator shaft was installed in Plant II of the Stotex company. The application was made on 15.03.1958 as VEB Stollberger Strumpffabriken. A building permit was requested and the necessary building materials were allocated so that construction work could begin as quickly as possible. In 1963, a local power cable station (transformer station) was built on the Stotex site.

In 1969, the factory building was converted into a military district headquarters. The building permit for this was granted on 06.02.1969. In 1974, the conversion and expansion of the former kitchen wing into a military training base began. The military district command was reconstructed between 1976 and 1978. According to correspondence dated May 19, 1976, a decision in principle was to be drawn up that year, together with project planning and preparatory services as well as a binding price offer. It was not until 1978 that the drainage work was started by the construction company Baumann Oelsnitz as the contractor and VEB Hoch- und Straßenbau as the client. The construction work was finally due to begin on 25.03.1978 and was due to be completed on 31.12.1978.

In July 1990, swearing-in ceremonies were still held in the military district command.

After the military district command was dissolved, the Stollberg employment office moved into the premises. In 1997, the employment office moved to its new home on Schlachthofstraße. The building has been empty ever since.
