Church half-timbered house / diaconate, Pfarrstraße 4

Deaconry Stollberg - half-timbered house

The parish and the diaconus' home were both located near St. James' Church not far from the market square. The parish burned down in 1809 and has since been completely rebuilt in stone, comfortable and functional. Behind the parish was a well-tended orchard and vegetable garden.

The file from 1833 shows that a Mr. Volkmann had an extension built for the diaconate and a magnificent balcony added to the lower side in July 1877. For the time, this building was decorated with many ornaments and decorations. In September 1939, a building permit was issued to Superintendent Heinze. The iron fence enclosure had to be removed. During the war, this building had been under fire. In October 1945, master builder Wimmer was commissioned to repair the damage caused by the shelling in the final days of the Second World War. The gable extension of the parish building was demolished and not rebuilt, as this extension was no longer needed for residential purposes. The balcony is also no longer there.

The building is a half-timbered house with a pitched roof that did not receive the attention it deserved in the past. As no building materials were available in GDR times and church buildings were not given the attention they deserved, part of the half-timbering on the gable was lost. The gable end was slated and is still there today.

is owned by the Evangelical Lutheran Church.
